Coverages above the minimum required can range from 15,000 up to 250,000 for per person bodily injury coverage and 35,000 to 500,000 per accident. Property Damage can be increased 25,000 to 100,000. These options are the most common for Florida auto insurance coverages however, some companies can differ. Some Florida Auto Insurance companies will allow you to purchase higher limits on your PIP protection and offer deductible options and work loss exclusion for Florida retirees.
What Florida Residents Should Know Before Purchasing Auto Coverage
Bodily injury coverage is not required by law in Florida but what you do not know can hurt you. The Florida DMV will allow Florida residents to register and drive on the road with only PIP and property damage coverages. The “Florida Financial Responsibility Law” states that any person at fault in a crash that results in bodily injury and property damage to others must have an active auto insurance policy with minimum bodily injury coverage limits of 10,000 per person 20,000 per accident bodily injury and PIP 10,000 coverage. Not having this minimum coverage can result in consequences for you as a Florida driver. Some of the consequences may include, suspension of license, fines, increased insurance costs, etc.
